Jesus,?!? Lets hope it's not a day late and a dollar short. People and pundits try to debase Obama by portraying him as a savior. They're so fucking close to the truth that their cliches, all the cliches the Right so hardily sticks to when portraying Barack, can only be answered by another cliche.

They can't see the forest for the trees.

I'm always a little stunned that people don't realize consciously that a cliche is synonymous with a truism. Six more months of inaction and poor management on the part of the current administration and who knows how bad things would get.

A panorama of the backyard. A stage on the hill with a giant screen. Another truss supporting the video projector and lights is closer, with the supports on the same level as the pool. That's a V-Dosc speaker system stacked up right next to the stairs coming down from the hill. The plexiglass flooring in the foreground, in front of where I stood when I took the picture, is covering a 20' X 32" pool.

The past and the future don't exist anywhere but the mind's eye. I guess that's why people can't fucking drive when they talk on a cell phone. Your eyeballs are hard wired and don't rely on any critical thinking to operate. But I guess it must use lots and lots of background brain power because when I start communicating verbally with someone, especially if I can't see their face, things get hard to focus on. If you're like me, your brain kind of of draws the curtains for a wee bit on the outside world as it tries to run through the first possible zillion answers to the question we were just asked. When that happens. I mean, it's hard to fucking walk. When I'm thinking hard about something and trying to come up with meaningful answers, my mind changes it's focus from the external visual world, to the internal eye of critical thinking, the only place that the past or the future exist. That super freaky synergy of your recent history/experiences combined with a high state of imagination and precognitive abilities.

A shot of Annelie and I at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Just minutes away from heading to the FOH mix position. R.E.M. was awesome naturally, came out wailing with "Begin the Begin". I had a great mix and really a great evening altogether. It was the eve of our 5th wedding aniversery as well as a chance to work (and get paid!) with R.E.M. But a small disaster happened anyway. :(
As the band was coming out to take their places I leaned over and hit the record button on my Alesis hard disk recorder and turned back to the mixing console. I've had it for years and used this multitrack recorder extensively without any problems. I set it up and tested it before the show. Recording constantly, especially while setting the record levels etc. You have to be very careful not to overload the inputs on this recorder or you're screwed.
I didn't look over at again untill the first song was winding down. I was that confident that it would work just fine.

WTF!! OMG 'HD failure no recording made ' !!!! Fuck. No time to mess with it because the next song is about to start and it requires careful attention because Peter Buck is changing form electric guitar to a mandolin!

I kept my focus and everything sounded very good, even by my own standards. I had the best equipment and all the right tools to achieve a really great mix and I nailed it! But alas, I can't help but feel a great sense of failure at not getting that recording.

Damn it! I'll take two recorders next time I reckon, or maybe three just to be safe. ;)
